With reference to your letter of June 17th relating

to the registry of ships owned by companies registered at

Hong Kong and having their principal place of business in

Chinese Treaty Ports, I am directed by Secretary Sir E.

Grey to state that the Board of Trade have proposed that

the question should be discussed at a conference between

representatives of that Department and of the Colonial

and Foreign Offices, before any action in the matter is

decided upon.

It has been suggested that the conference mijit take

place at the Board of Trade on February 19th at 11.30 a.m.

Subject to any observations Mr. Secretary Harcourt may

desire to offer, Sir E. Grey proposes to accept this

sugestion.
